Welcome to my blog Fit Chicks Eat Cheese

Why did I name my blog Fit Chicks Eat Cheese?

Well, because I don't believe in deprivation or starvation. I believe you can have the body you want while eating foods you love.

Five Tips For Health on a Busy Schedule

Posted on August 7, 2012

I hear it all the time from my clients "I don't have time to eat healthy and exercise!" Really?

I do agree we are all busier than ever these days. Kids, work, husbands, friends and for goodness sake can I get some time to read my 50 Shades of Grey PLEASE!

So how do we fit healthy eating and exercise into the mix?

First, figure out if it is a priority to you. Some people don't really WANT to eat healthy or exercise they just think they should want to do it. So is it really a priority right now? If so, why? Do you want to lose five pounds or run a 5k? Do you want to feel more energetic for your kids and be able to keep up with them on a bike or do you want to show your kids better eating habits? Whatever the reason, write it down. Look at it everyday. That way when there are days you are not motivated, you will remember your reason for doing it.

Why Don't French Women Get Fat?

Posted on June 11, 2012

I went to the Farmer’s Market this weekend and got some super yummy local produce. I love how talking to the farmers that grow my pesticide free food connects me deeper to the earth, my food and my health. When I shop like this it makes me feel very European.

Feeling this European influence I decided it was time to cook something I have never attempted before, mussels. Recently I’ve been cooking more seafood which has really scared me in the past. I had a silly limiting belief that I was not a good cook and I had no business even attempting seafood. But I know from working with clients (and from doing the work myself) that limiting beliefs are just really bad excuses.

I also decided it was time to bake my own bread (yes, I eat bread and cheese and drink wine, just not everyday and not a ton of it) from a recipe in the book “French Women Don’t Get Fat”. I like the attitude this book takes with food and lifestyle.

Stand Up!

Posted on May 25, 2012

I used to work in an office...for many years. I know it's not the most conducive place for your health and fitness goals.

In the last accounting position I had, my department was responsible for our company candy dish. YES! We had a HUGE candy bowl where it was the job of someone in the accounting department to keep it fully stocked at all times.

Talk about temptation! When I first started working there I gained 8 pounds! Gross. So I took myself off candy and started eating healthy and taking Pilates classes (which then turned into me teaching Pilates...and off I went into a whole new lifestyle...but I digress).

So what can you do while you are at work to help you towards your health goals? First off, drop the candy, cookies, birthday cake and free lunches. They are all junk. Bring your own lunch and conveniently have a "meeting" when birthday cake is being served (or go but just don't partake).

Why Do You Want the Things You Do?

Posted on April 23, 2012

Do you ever list out the things you want in your life, dream about them, slap them on a vision board and think "THIS IS IT"?

I do. I have lot of things I want. So do my clients. But when I desire something I also want to know why I want it.

Have you done this? You wanted something, got it and come to find out it didn't make you happy because you never really wanted it in the first place? I have. When I get the thing I thought I wanted, I wasn't happy because it was never my genuine desire to have it.

Let me give you an example. I wanted to go to college to study Finance. I took the tests, visited the colleges, and applied where I wanted to go. Yippppeeee! I got accepted, studied and took classes and graduated only to find out I really never wanted that in the first place. It was never my dream to be in Finance. It was my parents pushing me into the "9-5" stable life. I took it on as my own, but it was never what I really wanted.

10 Minute Health Changer!

Posted on April 20, 2012

My husband is brilliant! I need to tell him that more...just a side note!

We've been very busy lately. 2012 is off to a roaring pace and the rest of the year is not letting up (all good stuff!).

So our house was a bit in shambles. The dishes were in the sink, shoes all over the floor, the dogs toys in the bed. You know, a mess (for a childless, dog loving couple).

My brilliant husband said "Let's each take 10 minutes and clean up what we can. Whatever we don't get done is fine." WOW! Life changer! We each got so much done in ten minutes!

Why is this a life changer? I don't know about you, but I can use this in many areas of my life. It made me focus on the most important things I wanted done and just did it! I didn't scrub the tub, I put the dishes in the dish washer and cleaned counters.

I'm a child of overwhelm. It's a huge stress when I have a huge list of stuff to do and no time. The little time I have gets wasted because I can't focus.

How Would Your Life Change if You Did This One Thing?

Posted on April 11, 2012

Ask yourself this question: “If I accepted myself as I am, how would my life change?”

Would you feel free? Would you stop making excuses for why you can't do "such and such" and actually do it? Would you stop hiding and start shining? Would you get out and meet a man or have fun with friends? Would you start exercising and get the body you DO want for summer?

I know for me, I free up a lot of time! If I can squelch the negative chatter box, I have a lot of free time to take action on what I want in my life.

I accept that I’m not perfect and I’m not trying to be. I try to be the best version of me I can.

For a long time I was not willing to accept myself. Why? I wasn’t willing to let go of being a victim and blaming others for my shortcomings. If I accepted myself as I was, then I had to take responsibility for myself, my actions, my thoughts and my feelings.

Scary! You mean I have to do something, stick my neck out for what I really want and (gulp) take responsibility for the success or the failure of it!!!!????

What’s Making You and Me Fat?

Posted on April 6, 2012

After my last blog I did a bit more soul searching. What happened? Why did I fall off the wagon and gain a few pounds?

Stress. Plain and simple. I’ve been stressed. It happens to all of us. We are taking care of others and not of ourselves. We run a constant loop in our heads about what we have to do by when. We prioritize the wrong things and end up running ourselves ragged leaving no time or energy to make good choices. Our bodies start craving things in order to get kick started…and it’s a hot roller coaster mess.

Cortisol is a hormone that is released as a response to stress. This buggar wreaks havoc on our bodies. Cortisol makes it hard to lose weight and holds onto our fat storage (as well as damages our immune system).

So it’s time to “De-Stress”…what do I do? See what Oprah is doing of course (ok I really am not obsessed with her even though I’ve mentioned her in the last few blogs)!

What is Oprah doing? Meditation, that’s what.

Oops I did it again

Posted on March 21, 2012

Oops I did it again. I went off track with my healthy lifestyle.

I'm a Certified Health Coach/ PMA Certified Pilates Teacher, don't I know better? WHAT GIVES?

Well first off I KNEW I was going off the rails. I've been doing this work for a while. I know my tricks and lies I tell myself. I know my triggers and that when I get into fearful thinking, it takes everything I've got to be the Wellness Warrior I know I am and fight for what I really want.

So do I know better? Hell yes. Did I still gain five pounds over the last few weeks? You bet.

I am what you call a classic "Self Sabotage Sally". This means I say I want a healthy, vibrant life and a fit body, but I go ahead and make sure that doesn't happen.

Luckily I've done some work, know some stuff (um, I do this for a living!) and know some key people to help me get back on track.

How do I deal with "SSS"? I treat myself just like a client. I start with the basics.

Hearty Kale Soup

Posted on March 12, 2012

greens_farmers_market_1.jpgOk, I probably have another kale soup recipe that's similar...but this one I invented myself...or maybe from memory!

Nonetheless, it's more of a method…as is most my cooking. Just know that it really is a mix and match, “put what you like in there” kind of method. I'm not precise about measurements, so get over it!

Hearty Kale Soup

one onion chopped

two cloves garlic chopped

one bunch kale cleaned and ribs cut out, torn into bite size pieces

one can white beans

one can diced tomato

savory tofu (from Trader Joe's-but use what you have) cut into cubes

What Does Oprah Know for Sure?

Yo shorty, it's my BIRTHDAY!

What an auspicious day to have a birthday!

Full moon, Purim, International Women’s Day….ok this is my “woo woo” coming out.

But I’ve felt it’s been quite a day, quite a year actually.

I’ve been thinking all day, what are the things I’ve learned this past year from 35 to 36?

Like Oprah Says, Here are Ten Things I Know for Sure:
